Pen Pal Program
This year we are involved in a pen pal program where we write letters to other children in Italy and they write back to us. It is very interesting because we can practice using good English and make new friends in another European country. Miss Deanna organised it for us and all of the students in classes 1 and 2 wrote their letters and then our teacher sent the letters to Italy. It was very exciting and we all drew pictures on the letters to make them look beautiful and attractive. We introduced ourselves and our school to our new pen pals and we hope to meet them in person next year. This is a great experience because now we have the opportunity to make international friends and maybe even travel to Europe and see other cultures. In general, we are all very excited about this new program and look forward to receiving our pen pals' replies very soon.

Careers Fair
On Wednesday 17th of February the American Academy Limassol hosted its annual Careers Fair & Options evening at its secondary schools facilities. By far the longest consecutive running Careers Fair in Limassol, now in its tenth year, the fair was organized with the aim of providing students and their parents alike the opportunity to decide what future career path to follow and to gain an insight of what to expect when concluding their studies and entering the employment market.
With 12 specially invited University representatives and higher education consultants from Britain, USA, and Cyprus, students and parents received first-hand relevant information about university applications, fees and course choices.
Also in attendance was Mr. Chris Marley, an Occupational Psychologist from the UK on behalf of the Morrisby Organisation. Mr. Marley was in Cyprus at our request to run the Morrisby Profile, a psychometric test used to help our students decide on which career or educational path to follow.
During the evening, students planning to take IGCSE/GCSE and GCE examinations in the near future were able to consult and discuss their subject choice with any of our 15 teaching staff members.
Informative presentations such as ‘British university application process', ‘Choosing the right GCE A-levels', and ‘What to consider when choosing a university' regarding higher and secondary education were made by Mr.Efstathiou during the course of the event.
An Inspector Calls
All class four students that take literature as one of their option subjects this year decided to act out a play. This play was based on a play from their syllabus called "An Inspector Calls." The characters were: Mr. Birling, Mrs. Birling, Sheila Birling, Eric Birling, Gerald Croft, the strange inspector - who was a mysterious figure until the very end - and the maid Edna. The students of class four said that they wanted to act out this play so they could understand it in greater detail. Special lighting and microphones were installed and a great amount of effort was put in by all of the students and teachers to make the play enjoyable for their audience. They raised money for props and other things they needed by running a bake sale during breaks. This was indeed very responsible of them.
The play was about the Birling family all having something to do with a young girl's death. This girl apparently committed suicide by drinking a bottle of disinfectant and the whole family was to blame in different ways. An inspector came and identified the connection between them and everyone was very suspicious about this inspector because he seemed to know everything about them (something that normal police inspectors could not possibly know). After the inspector left they all sat down and shared opinions and feelings about what had just occurred in their house, and they concluded that the inspector was not a real police inspector at all. They called the police station to ask if anyone had died by drinking disinfectant but they said that no one had. After that the family got a phone call from the police force saying that a young girl had just lost her life by drinking disinfectant. How strange and frightening was that? There was a lot of tension and suspense throughout the play and we all kept wondering what the truth really was.
In general, this play was very interesting and enjoyable for the audience, causing lots of laughter and a positive atmosphere despite its serious themes. Great thanks to Ms. Cox for directing the play and Ms. Keperti for helping the class four literature students do such a good job. Well done class four!
